I have a post HERE for multiple margarita combinations but this one has been my all time favorite for quite some time so it needs its own post. There's a few steps you have to do ahead of time but TRUST ME when I say it's worth it, this drink is AMAZING!!!
spicy tequila
limeade (simply brand is really best)
blueberry simple syrup, optional
tajin and sugar for rim
optional garnish: blueberries, rosemary and dehydrated citrus slice
Spicy Tequila
First step is to make your spicy tequila by infusing it with Serrano peppers. You can use your favorite tequila here - I prefer silver so this is what I use. Most bars use jalapeños to infuse their tequila but I've stopped using them because their heat is not reliable and I prefer the taste of Serrano pepper. *there is a ghost tequila that is already spicy, it's good but it's more expensive for less tequila and the heat is so subtle. Making your own is definitely a better option.
1.75 liter bottle of tequila
2 or 3 serrano peppers
Pour about a shot worth of tequila out of bottle and enjoy - cut peppers in half and submerge in tequila bottle. Allow to infuse for 3 days before making first drink.
If you're going to include blueberry simple syrup go ahead and make it on the day you start infusing your tequila. I make a large batch and keep it in a quart mason jar in the fridge. However I've since stopped adding it to my personal drink because I think the limeade is sweet enough but many of my friends prefer it with the syrup so I definitely recommend trying it!
If you want to use blueberries as a garnish, I freeze a bag so they never go bad. Throw them in any drink and they'll be thawed by the time to finish the drink.
If you want to include a dehydrated lime as a garnish, prepare these when you start infusing your tequila as well. The citrus will be done at different times based on the thickness of the slice so keep a close eye on them. I make a large batch of these as well and have them in an airtight container in the fridge.
Preparing the Cocktail
Rim your glass with lime juice, then sugar, then tajin. It's too tart if you do it the other way around unless you prefer the tajin by itself then do that but I think the sugar first is best. Tajin did just release a new bottle already mixed with sugar but in my opinion it's still too tart...
To the glass add your tequila. Here's where you tailor the drink to your taste and tolerance. Put in either 1 shot, 1 1/2 shots or 2 shots of tequila. Then put ice in the glass. The smaller amount of ice you put in the less you'll taste the tequila. The more ice the stronger the drink will taste. My preference is 1 1/2 shots tequila and ice until the tequila is at the half way line in the glass, then fill the rest of the glass with limeade.
If you're using blueberry simple syrup - add 2 or 3 tablespoons to the glass and stir. Add any garnish you desire or none at all and enjoy!
*You can shake this drink if you'd like but I stopped because it was extra work and still tasted just as amazing without shaking. I don't even stir mine - pouring the juice over the tequila mixes it enough for me.
*I have experimented with the flavors of this drink, swapping the blueberry simple syrup for ginger simple syrup or cranberry simple syrup and swapping the limeade with lemonade or pineapple juice and the combination posted works the best in my opinion but experiment away!
