Welcome to New Orleans, Louisiana
I've been to New Orleans 3 times. I do not know much about the area or history of New Orleans but I will attempt to showcase my favorite spots below.
The very first thing I think of when I hear New Orleans is Mardi Gras, I've never been but I am sure it's a blast!
The very next thing I think of when I hear New Orleans is beignets and coffee from Cafe Du Monde. Cafe Du Monde is located in the French Quarter, which is full of history, sightseeing, shops and restaurants. Both the French Quarter and Cafe Du Monde are an absolute must when visiting New Orleans.
If shopping interests you, you will also want to check out the Riverwalk Outlets.
If museums are what you enjoy there is The National WWII Museum, the Audubon Aquarium and Audubon Zoo.
I ate at Creole House and ordered the Taste of New Orleans which comes with your choice of jambalaya, crawfish étouffée, red beans & rice and gumbo. Everything was amazing and I really loved this restaurant! They also had a giant glass beverage dispenser with vodka marinating for their bloody marys. I did find this blog post about bloody marys in the area and sadly it doesn't contain Creole House but these sound delicious too!
There is a nice hotel/casino in New Orleans that could potentially pay for your trip if you play your cards right! Ceasars Casino.
There's also Steamboat tours on the Mississippi River that look like so much fun!
No trip to New Orleans is complete without walking down Bourbon Street. There are plenty of bars, places to eat, shows and shops to keep you busy for hours.
New Orleans has so much history and interesting stories that it would really be beneficial to sign up for historical tours and even a haunted tour to learn as much as you can about the city while there.
