My neighbor introduced me to this odd snack, she is from Alabama and said she ate it often as a child. I googled it and found it mentioned on several sites!
canned pear halves
mayonaise (my neighbor insists on Bama mayo or miracle whip to us non Alabama folks)
shredded cheddar cheese
maraschino cherries, optional
Top the center of each pear half with a tablespoon of mayo and sprinkle with cheese. Add a cherry if desired.
