DISNEY RESORT HOPPING FOR *FREE*

have you heard of resort hopping around disney?  it's a way to enjoy restaurants, bars and shopping - the best part, is they offer free transportation!  you may have to pay to park depending on where you start.  use the information below to plan your day and have a plan b in case something doesn't work out.  during the holidays some resorts offer a limited holiday treat and cocktail plus amazing decorations!  ✨some of the restaurants require reservations and if you make a reservation that will ensure you can park at that location.

collect: themed merch, ears, backpacks, christmas ornaments, coasters, pressed pennies, disney medallions, commemorative pins and selfies with hidden character props.

parking:  this seems to change often so it may need to be a game day decision.  to ensure you are able to travel easily to your car from wherever you end up it may be best to park at a theme park.  at this time disney springs is no longer offering free transportation to parks/resorts.

transportation between resorts:  there are many different options of free and paid transportation to travel between resorts.  check them all out here.

resorts:  at time the of this blog post there are currently 34 disney resorts so plan your day that best suits your needs.  I'll highlight a few below.

the disney monorail transportation system can be accessed from the magic kingdom and goes to the following resorts:
disney's contemporary resort features spectacular views from it's A frame tower.  inside you'll find several bar and restaurants to choose from.
christmas at disney's contemporary resort features a 17 foot gingerbread display, 70 foot outdoor christmas tree and a holiday treat pop up shop.  you can also view the magic kingdom's fireworks from the fourth floor observation deck or the bridge connecting the resort to bay lake.
disney's polynesian village has a tropical ambiance and offers exotic asian infused menu options at it's bars and restaurants.  this resort also offers a character breakfast with lilo & stitch!

disney's grand floridian is a sophisticated resort that mimics the victorian style of palm beach's golden era.  the bars and restaurants feature a more high end menu.
for christmas the grand floridian is decorated with swan motifs, bird cages and victorian ornaments.  the lobby occasionally has carolers, string quartets and a pianist playing christmas classics.  specialty holiday treats are served at gasparilla island grill and the grand floridian cafe.

the disney skyliner can be accessed from hollywood studios and epcot and goes to the following resorts:
disney's art of animation resort is a bright and fun resort with larger than life character displays, it also features themed rooms from the movie's: the little mermaid, finding nemo, the lion king and cars.  this resort does not have a variety of restaurants and bars but it does have a gift shop with mainly resort specific merch.
disney's Caribbean beach resort is a leisurely vibrant place comprised of 5 islands mimicking: barbados, jamaica, martinique, trinidad and aruba.  the bars and restaurants look great, I'm especially interested in trying sebastian's bistro!
disney's pop century resort highlights toys from the past centered around the 1950s through the 1990s.  this resort also has larger than life sculptures of timeless toys like the yo-yo, a big wheel, playdoh, foosball table and the mickey mouse phone!  dining is limited here but there is a gift shop!
disney's riviera resort has an enchanted european vibe with a few bars and restaurants to choose from.

the disney water transportation system provides water taxi's from certain parks to certain resorts, since this blog is about resort hopping without a park ticket I'm not going to highlight those options here but you can view them by clicking on the water transportation link.

the sassagoula river cruise use to be available from disney springs but has since restricted it's travel to guests who have a resort reservation, dining reservation or experience reservation.  I am hoping this restriction eventually gets lifted.  this cruise goes to the following resorts:
disney's old key west resort -  experience the tranquil community of the florida keys and check out their bar and restaurants.  key west is my absolute favorite place to visit so I've really been wanting to check this resort out!
disney's saratoga springs resort mimics the historic downtown of saratoga springs, NY - we lived in saratoga springs and my youngest was born there so this is another must see for us!  check out their options of bars and restaurants.
disney's port orleans riverside resort captures the romance of rural louisiana.  bars and restaurants.  you can walk to the french quarter side from here!
disney's port orleans french quarter resort captures the magic and history new orleans.  this is a popular resort to visit based on it's decor and food options.  the cajun and creole food paired with the beignets are very popular!
