I use jute twine to make the bows and a hemp cord to attach the year charms. I order the year charms from amazon.
starching ornaments with corn starch:
whisk together 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1 cup of water
bring mixture to a boil and cook until a gel forms
allow to cool and add in 1/2 water to thin out a bit
submerge ornaments in starch solution then squeeze and blot off excess, pin to a piece of cardboard in desired shape and allow to set for 24 hours.
