I really love these discovery maps. They are cute, informative and often times come with coupons. I collect them every chance I get when we go to a new destination.
Welcome to Amelia Island, Florida
Downtown Amelia Island is Centre Street, this street is full of history, shops and restaurants as well as a marina and tours to explore. This street is magical and is especially busy during the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, the first weekend in May and in December for Dickens on Centre Festival.
Centre Street is also home to the states oldest bar, The Palace Saloon - you cannot visit Amelia Island without grabbing a cup of pirate punch and posing with the pirate out front!
Fun fact - the majority of Pippi Longstocking was filmed on Centre Street and The Palace was where the ice cream fight scene was filmed. Pippi's Longstocking's home, Villa Villekulla, is located at 212 Estrada St in Fernandina Beach.
One of my favorite shops on Centre is The Cinnamon Bear Country Store. There's something for everyone in there! Across the street from The Cinnamon Bear is the Fernandina Harbor Marina where you can walk down by the water and view a gorgeous sunset or book an adventure with Amelia River Cruises. If you enjoy being on the water, Amelia Adventures is another option as well.
Another one of my favorite spots on Centre is the Ship's Lantern store. There's all sorts of nautical treasures to look at in there but the shark tooth collection alone is worth a visit. You can find sharks teeth up and down the beaches of Amelia Island. Most enjoy looking for them at Fort Clinch State Park, where you can also tour the fort, visit the gift shop and there's public bathrooms. You can hunt teeth on the Bayside by the Fort and also at the beach access. Fort Clinch is also a very popular camping destination.
The beaches of Amelia Island are beautiful and one great way to see them is via horseback with Happy Trails. We've done this tour and absolutely loved it!
The Omni Amelia Island is a very popular resort to stay at but what I love most about them is their amazing restaurants they have to offer. Each one is more delicious than the next! Bob's Steak & Chop House is one of our favorites, I cannot get enough of their bread! The Ritz Carlton Amelia Island is another popular resort and their restaurants are amazing as well! Salt is by far my favorite restaurant on the entire island when it comes to fine dining and I HIGHLY recommend it for any special occasion. The food has always been incredible anytime we've gone.
Some of our favorite restaurants are: Cantina Louie, Down Under, Pepper's, Shuckers Oyster Bar, Sliders Seaside Grill, The Amelia Tavern, The Crab Trap, The Patio Place Bistro, The Salty Pelican, The Sandbar & Kitchen, The Surf and Wicked Bao. We also enjoy relaxing and grabbing a drink from The Decantery and then dessert from Nana Teresa's Bake Shop
Most of the restaurants listed above also have great drinks and live music. Another spot we enjoy is the Green Turtle Tavern.
