GROWING BASIL

Start with seeds or a purchased plant.
Prune plant regularly for best results.  You want a short and wide bushy plant - not tall and leggy and never allow basil to bloom flowers!
Cut the basil stem at the lowest point on the stem just above the node where two leaves are on either side of the stem.  Allow those two leaves to grow new stalks and once those two new stalks have grown a set of two leaves, snip just above those and continue the pruning this way.
Prune each new stalk when you will have approximately 3" of stalk.  Pluck basil off your stalk and use fresh or freeze.  Place stalks in a jar of water in a sunny window and once lots of roots have formed, transfer to the garden.
Other herbs can be pruned and propagated this way, examples: mint, rosemary, thyme
