2-3 tablespoons caramel sauce (like ice cream topping)
8 oz milk
garnish: whipped cream and more caramel sauce
Place caramel in cup - you can adjust the amount based on how sweet you like.
Heat milk in the microwave for 1 1/2 min to 2 minutes or on the stove top until just before boiling - DO NOT boil.
Pour hot milk over caramel and stir until completely combined. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of more caramel.
Make it a cafe caramel! Add two shots of espresso (pictured)
*I use Ghirardelli sea salt caramel sauce, it's my favorite!
Backstory:
My friend Jen lives in Indiana and recently visited an amazing chocolate shop selling gorgeous treats. She told me about this drink she was enjoying called a hot caramel. I've never heard of it, so I googled to attempt to make one and enjoy it with her. Turns out the chocolate shop made a video showing exactly how they make it! It's so simple and just like a hot chocolate but with caramel instead. How have I never heard of this??? I took my drink a step further and added 2 shots of espresso and it's currently my new favorite hot drink.
