KY SOUP BEANS, BURGOO AND MINT JULEP

 

2 cans bush's pinto beans
3oz country ham
bush of cilantro
lemon zest
hot honey

simmer beans and country ham on medium low for about an hour.  

Remove from heat when ready to serve and stir in cilantro.  Top with grated lemon zest and drizzle with hot honey.

While visiting KY we were introduced to KY soup beans above, KY burgoo and the mint julep.  We hosted a KY derby viewing party and made the beans above along with the burgoo and mint juleps.


We used this recipe for the burgoo - this dish received mixed reviews in our house but you can look at the ingredients and tell if it sounds like something you'd like or not.


2oz bourbon
1oz simple syrup
fresh mint leaves plus a sprig for garnish

place simple syrup and 8-10 mint leaves to a glass and muddle to crush up mint
fill glass with crushed ice and add in bourbon
stir well and garnish with a mint sprig
