SOUR PATCH KID CAKE

3 boxes white cake mix, plus ingredients to make cake (eggs, oil, water)
*6 powdered drink packets
large bag or several boxes of sour patch kids
2 bricks cream cheese
2 cups powdered sugar
8oz tub cool whip

*powdered drink packets should be made with citric acid, this will add a little bit of sour flavor to each cake layer.  Examples: Koolaid, crystal lite and jolly rancher all work!  Choose drink colors you want your cake layers to be, however some drinks are more vibrant than others so you may need to substitute with food coloring to get desired color.

Mix cake batter and divide in half, add a drink packet to each half making two different colors and bake.  While these two layers are baking you can start mixing up the next two and so on.

Once all six layers are baked, use a large round cookie or biscuit cutter to cut the center out of 5 of the layers. *do not cut the top layer or you will not be able to frost the top of the cake.  If you do not have a cutter, just freehand with a knife.

Prepare frosting by beating the cream cheese and sugar until smooth.  Fold in cool whip.

Assemble the 5 layers stacking one on top of the other, frosting in between as you stack.  Fill the center cavity of the with sour patch kids.
Place the top layer on and then frost the entire cake!
Decorate with extra sour patch kids.
