BLOODY CUPCAKES

1 box red velvet cake mix, plus ingredients to make them

frosting
16oz cream cheese
1 cup sugar
8oz tub cool whip

candy glass
2 cups water
3 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

blood
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 tablespoon corn starch
red & blue food coloring

Prepare cupcakes according to directions on box.

Mix candy glass ingredients together in a pot.  Bring to a boil.  Use a candy thermometer.  Once temp reaches 300* pour sugar mixture on a sheet pan covered in foil (I've done it with or without foil and it didn't stick to bad to the pan).  Candy glass takes about 2 hours to set.  Once hard, use a meat tenderizer to break candy glass into shards.

Whip cream cheese and sugar in an electric mixer for about a minute until creamy and well combined.  Fold in cool whip and frost cupcakes.

Stab each cupcake with a glass shard.

Stir corn syrup and corn starch together and add 15 drops or more of red food coloring and 1 or 2 drops of blue until you've reached that rich blood color - do not add too much blue or your blood will turn purple.  Drizzle or splatter blood over each cupcake.
