BIG MOMMA'S BANANA PUDDING

6 eggs
4 cups milk
1 1/3 cup sugar, plus 1/4 cup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons cornstarch (you can use flour in a pinch)
1 box vanilla wafer cookies
5 or 6 bananas, sliced 

In a sauce pan combine 4 egg yolks (save whites for meringue), 2 whole eggs, 1 1/3 cup sugar, cornstarch and milk.  Heat throughly until thickened and can coat a wooden spoon.  Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.

Alternate layers of cookies and sliced bananas in a casserole dish, pour custard even on top.  

Beat reserved egg whites and 1/4 cup sugar and until stiff peaks form.  Pour over top of pudding and broil in oven until top turns slightly brown.
